The Head of Health and Safety at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust in Worthing is tasked with serving as the Trust’s primary expert in health and safety, responsible for analyzing and enhancing health and safety practices throughout the organisation. This role involves maintaining a comprehensive knowledge of national policies and best practices, implementing necessary changes in collaboration with process owners, and ensuring effective health and safety risk management across all clinical and corporate services. The position requires strong leadership skills to manage the Health & Safety team, promote a culture of safety, and develop strategic frameworks that align with statutory requirements.

Key responsibilities include formulating a Trust-wide Health and Safety Strategy, ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, and providing expert support and training on relevant issues. The Head of Health and Safety will also work closely with senior management, facilitate the identification and mitigation of risks, lead on external assessments, and oversee incident investigations to promote high standards within the Trust. This role is crucial for maintaining a safe environment for staff, patients, and the public.
