Band Specialty Doctor: £59,175 to £95,400 a year dependant on experience  FIXED TERM 
Treatment of mental illness where this is the cause of challenging behaviour (complemented by other interventions as appropriate), where it cannot be safely carried out in the community.

The Trust is seeking a Specialty Doctor to join the established In-patient and Intensive Support Teams that provide assessment and treatment for individuals with learning disabilities from across the City of Hull and the County Area of East Riding of Yorkshire.

The aim of acute learning disability inpatient service is to provide the following three core functions of support:

  • Assessment (including for potential mental illness) of the causes of challenging behaviour, where it cannot be safely carried out in the community
  • Treatment of mental illness where this is the cause of challenging behaviour (complemented by other interventions as appropriate), where it cannot be safely carried out in the community
  • Reintegration of the individual back into the community after hospital treatment, including provision of support/guidance to families and support providers

The service seeks to minimise a person's length of stay and any admissions are supported by a clear rationale of planned assessment and treatment with measureable outcomes. The core team at Townend is multidisciplinary and includes Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Clinical Psychology, Psychiatry and Speech and Language Therapy. The team at Townend Court work closely with the community team who also work with the individual, and discharge planning is done in partnership.

This is a developmental post created in response to an increase in demand on the Learning Disability Service and to support the existing Consultant.

The post holder will be required to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team within a designated catchment area. The post holder will provide medical services to the Learning Disability Psychiatry Service working with named Consultants to deliver a comprehensive In-patient and Community Service. The post holder will be expected to maintain and enhance a strong community ethos working closely with General Practitioners, Primary Health Care Teams, Social Services and other agencies and focus on service delivery to clients.

You will share the vision of integrated and multi-disciplinary working and actively engage in the development of the service through research and support.

The post holder would be expected to be Section 12(2) MHA approved and will be expected to renew this approval according to agreed procedures.

The ability to commute within the Trusts geographical area with access to the appropriate means of transport is essential.
