The adult Critical Care (CC) Department, adheres to national standards as set out by GPICS and currently consists of 3 areas - AICU, an 18 bedded ward, PACU (recovery) a 10 bedded ward, and Elizabeth (EICU) a 24 bedded ward, admitting approximately 1200 patients per year with a variety of cardiological and respiratory diseases and post procedural/operative cardiovascular and thoracic cases. Tertiary and quaternary services include Grown Up Congenital Heart (GUCH) disease, pulmonary hypertension, cystic fibrosis and asthma, and minimally invasive cardiological interventions. RBH provides a severe acute respiratory failure referral service for the South-West of England and is commissioned as one of 5 national ECMO centres.
The postholder will take part in the senior fellow rota consisting of a combination of Health Education England (HEE) trainees and senior clinical fellows (SCF). This is currently 2 x one-in-eight full shift resident rota (subject to change dependent on staffing). The rota is fully compliant with national terms and meets the requirements for national training programmes. All doctors whether in a training programme have access to the same training and educational opportunities and bespoke individualised training is possible after discussion with Educational Supervisor.
