Salary: £39,000 - £43,000 FTE - dependent on experience.


Location: Clay Cross Medical Centre and Tupton Surgery.


Temporary fixed term contract for 6 months (20 hours per week) No out of hours working


Start date: Immediately

Clay Cross Medical Centre is seeking an enthusiastic, forward thinking Practice Nurse with extensive knowledge and experience to join our highly committed Primary Health Care Team.

The successful applicant will have the ability to work independently as well as being a good team player. They will be an experienced practice nurse who can lead in the management of long term conditions. This includes the assessment of need, delivery and evaluation of care interventions and management plans in line with best practice standards. The post holder will also be required to have general practice experience including use of Systemone.

Practice nurse skills including immunisations, wound care, cervical cytology and INR management is highly desirable. Accredited Long Term conditions training in diabetes or COPD and asthma are essential as is experience of working in a primary care environment. The successful candidate will also ideally be an independent non-medical prescriber.

Informal visits and discussions are strongly encouraged. Must be available for interview on 5th/6th November.

Our new team member will deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all our patients. In accordance with the practice timetable, and as agreed, you will undertake a variety of duties, including chronic disease management, INR management, wound care and contraception.

About us

Works independently using own initiative and is accountable for their own professional actions.

Administers adult and child immunisations and vaccinations in accordance with national and local programmes. Maintain competence in anaphylaxis and resuscitation techniques. Ensures safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and drugs and adequate stock levels are maintained.

Offers comprehensive travel health advice for patients prior to travel including malaria prophylaxis, safe sex, food hygiene, sun protection, first aid and emergency medication, health insurance and vaccinations.

Undertakes procedures to include but not exclusive to, venepuncture, BP management, urinalysis, peak flow, spirometry, new patient health checks, pregnancy testing, suture/clip removal, ear syringing, cytology and wound management.

Undertakes collection, storage and despatch of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears etc., and ensure cleanliness of equipment used.

Recognises areas of concern and gathers sufficient information to refer e.g. drugs, domestic violence, child protection, vulnerable adults, senior patients, social problems.

INR monitoring and warfarin management.

On successful completion of independent non-medical prescriber accredited training and registration with the NMC, ensure safe, effective and appropriate practice as defined by current legislative framework and local and practice guidelines. The post holder must only prescribe within their area of competence.
