An exciting opportunity has arisen within Speciality Medicine for a band 6 to join the team at Newhaven Community ward. We are a 34 bedded inpatient rehabilitation unit based in Newhaven.
Are you career minded with drive and enthusiasm? Do you enjoy playing a key role within the multidisciplinary team? Do you have strong communication and leadership skills?
Applicants must demonstrate evidence of recent professional development, a leadership course, would be advantageous. The ideal candidate will have a mentorship qualification, or be working towards, with substantial previous experience within medicine or surgery.
You will be given a local ward induction, and a supernumerary structured orientation period with support from the ward manager, practice educator and matron aimed at supporting you to develop in the first few months of starting. There is also ongoing support through regular appraisals, competency based learning, and relevant study days.
We are looking for someone who can work 37.5 hours a week, and the role includes working long days weekends. Part time will be considered.
There will be a 10 minute presentation at interview.

- Responsible for the development, planning and co-ordination of specialist treatment within a ward or department.
- Assess patients, plan, implement and manage care.
- Carry out specialist nursing procedures.
- Provide specialist advice to patients and carers.
- Undertake research and lead clinical audits in specialist area.
- Will be required to supervise a team of nursing/therapist and support staff.

- Work on own initiative to undertake a wide range of duties relating to specialist area, backed up by professional skills and knowledge, including being able to respond in the event of an adverse reaction.
- Be highly skilled and competent in the comprehensive assessment of patients using theoretical knowledge and a wide range of experience to assess needs and administer care to support recovery.
- Devise individual patient-led treatment plans using clinical reasoning, current evidence and a wide range of treatment skills.
- Co-ordinate interventions which may include other disciplines through case management, multidisciplinary team meetings, integrated teams within the hospital and in the community and goal setting meetings.
- Ensure all documentation is complete and accurate and that all information is stored and maintained appropriately by keeping databases and records updated.
- Assist specialist nurses in answering patient advice line by triaging calls and offering assistance to patients undergoing therapies.
- Plan and implement sessions of care based on sound theoretical knowledge and evidence.
- Ensure the use of a clinical governance framework and resources to guide practice, participating in supervision and reflection on clinical practice
- Bring excellent clinical judgemental skills to the analysis and interpretation of a range of clinical options regarding patient care.
