An opportunity has arisen for a full time Band 8b post within the Newcastle Hospitals NHS Trust Paediatric Psychology Service. The post will be to develop and deliver a new service for children and young people within the Paediatric Pain (0.4 wte) and the Paediatric Major Trauma Service (0.6 wte).
The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues in a multi-disciplinary team setting to deliver care for patients and their families, in addition to training and support for staff, service improvement and evaluation, and taking on leadership roles as required. Applicants should have substantial post qualification experience of working within a health psychology setting, and of working with children and their families.
The successful candidate will be based within our well-established Paediatric Health Psychology team in Newcastle upon Tyne. The Paediatric Health Psychology Service is committed to child and family centred care and is part of the wider department of Psychology in Healthcare, enabling collaboration and support with adult psychology and neuropsychology colleagues. There are also close links with the Doctorate Clinical Psychology course at Newcastle and Teesside Universities. Although this is a full time post, we would also be interested in talking to people who would like less than full time hours.

- Delivery of clinical psychology assessment, formulation and intervention with patients and their families
- Supporting and working closely with the MDT in the delivery of psychologically informed care
- Training for staff around psychological models in relation to pain and major traumas
- Active participant in Service Evaluation and Quality Improvement
- Clinical supervision of assistants, trainees and qualified clinical psychology staff as required
- Line management of clinical psychology staff as required
- Member of the Paediatric Psychology Managers team
About us
- Takes appropriate responsibility for clinical psychology provision to the service in which this post is located and supports the provision of a stand-alone service including demand/waiting list management, reporting and making recommendations regarding service provision. Is expected to manage the care of the most challenging and complex psychological presentations presenting within this part of the service. Is required to provide supervision of clinical psychologists and trainee clinical psychologists.
- Provides a qualified specialist clinical psychology service across all sectors of care to the population served by this post; providing specialist psychological assessment, formulation and therapy. Offering advice and consultation on patients psychological care to colleagues from other disciplines and to other, non-professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the teams policies and procedures. To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service.
- Is expected to take delegated responsibility for aspects of service delivery from the Consultant Clinical or Neuropsychologist and deputise in the absence of the Consultant Clinical or Neuropsychologist.
