Additionally, the role requires participation in the efficient running of the department, supporting new staff, and contributing to a collaborative environment. The post holder will be expected to work flexible hours, including weekends and bank holidays on a rotational basis, and will undertake training in specific clinical tasks such as venepuncture and cannulation. Emphasis is placed on personal development, teamwork, and complying with Trust policies to ensure the highest standard of patient care.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic forward thinking individual to join the established team in a busy Haematology Day Case and Outpatient Department. You will be part of a wider team of nursing staff, rotating through the department, including the outpatient clinic area, day case treatment area, apheresis area, and assisting with bone marrow aspirate procedures. The post will be based at the City Campus. The unit is open 8am-8pm Monday to Friday and Saturday 8am -4pm. The post holder will be expected to work Saturdays and bank holidays on a rotational basis.
Work as a member of the team providing a high standard of care to patients and their carers.
Deliver high quality holistic care to patients with the indirect supervision of a registered nurse.
Deliver efficient and effective care and communication between the multidisciplinary team, the patient, relatives and carers.
Following appropriate training, undertake venepuncture, cannulation, venesection, PICC line care and ECG recording.
Work within the apheresis department learning how to load kits, take blood samples and administration duties
Assist with Bone Marrow Aspirate procedures.
Participate in the effective running of the outpatient department, ensuring clinics are running to time.

Be able to undertake full nursing observations accurately, and recognise the deteriorating patient
Act as the patients advocate ensuring that their best interests are met.
Using the competency framework, carry out basic nursing care of the patient and their daily activities and promote patient safety, comfort, privacy, dignity and confidentiality, reporting any change in condition to the nurse in charge.

Use initiative in planning daily and weekly routines.
Carry out the role without the need for constant supervision and direction recognising limitations and seeking supervision when necessary.
Comply with all Trust policies with particular regard to the policies and procedures carried out in the event of maintaining staff and patient safety.
Report all accidents and untoward incidents to the nurse in charge of the area complete an incident form in accordance with Trust policy.
Report problems with equipment and facilities to the nurse in charge Be prepared to attend and undertake any necessary training, being aware of to develop oneself and to strive to increase personal knowledge.
Communication
Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team in order to promote efficient patient care.
Maintain accurate patient records.
Communicate with and provide support for patients relatives, carers and visitors.
Be aware of the need for confidentiality both within the written and spoken word and ensure correct storage of patients records at all times.
Liaise with other clinical areas as necessary for the coordination of patient care and the smooth running of the ward/unit/department.
Recognise the importance of personal contribution to morale.
Managerial
Support a culture of teamwork within the clinical area.
Collaborate with all members of the clinical area to ensure efficient running of the ward/unit/department.
Use resources effectively in order to provide quality patient care whist having an awareness of budgetary issues.
Supervise and support new non-registered staff.
General
Be aware of need for own personal development.
Contribute to making the clinical environment conductive to learning and development where individuals feel able to discuss ideas and action as well as showing initiative.
Participate in educational programmes.
Ensure completion of venepuncture and cannulation, picc line care and venesection competency packages.
