We are seeking to appoint a Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapist within the Durham Tees Valley (DTV) Adult Learning Disability Teesside Community Service.
The Adult Learning Disability Teesside Community services cover Redcar, Middlesbrough, Stockton and Hartlepool localities with opportunities work across sites (Wessex House, Stockton, Flatts Lane, Middlesbrough and Centre for Independent Living, Hartlepool). Main base is negotiable across the 3 sites.
The successful post holder will have responsibility for clinical oversight and service development across the patch. Clinical assessment and interventions will be delivered according to service need.
The post holder will work alongside the wider MDT which includes psychiatry, nursing, support workers, occupational therapy, positive behaviour support practitioners, psychologists, dietitians, physiotherapists, advanced nurse practitioners and modern matron.
The role of the Band 7 SLT will be to lead a small team in assessing and treating communication difficulties and problems with eating, drinking and swallowing (dysphagia). As Clinical Lead SLT the post holder will work closely with the Clinical Specialist- SLT, carry their own caseload, supervise and mentor SLT colleagues and support the practice and learning of professionals within the wider MDT. The post holder will also be part of the leadership team and be responsible for service development.
The successful applicant will have significant experience of working with adults with learning disabilities, mental health difficulties, challenging behaviour and/or complex needs. Knowledge of relevant national policy and local directives is essential, as is competence in the assessment and treatment of eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties. Most important is an enthusiasm for working with this client group and a passion to improve the lives of the people we support.
The post holder will be part of a dynamic SLT Learning Disability and Mental Health service, with well-defined peer support, supervision systems and extensive CPD alongside opportunities to shape the SLT service as part of the clinical leadership team.
