The role of Section Lead HODS at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust involves leading the immunophenotyping section of the Haemato-Oncology diagnostic lab, which specializes in diagnostic testing for haematological malignancies. The successful candidate, an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with significant experience in leukaemia immunophenotyping and flow cytometry, will be responsible for developing and maintaining UKAS accredited diagnostic tests, processing patient samples, and providing expert interpretation of complex diagnostic results. Additionally, the role includes collaborating with scientific, technical, and clinical staff, training junior laboratory staff, participating in research and development, and assisting with quality management and accreditation processes.

In this position, the Section Lead will ensure the delivery of high-quality, efficient services while actively engaging in scientific discussions and audits. The role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to represent the lab at multidisciplinary meetings, contributing to patient management through the interpretation of diagnostic investigations. The candidate will also take on responsibilities for maintaining core competencies and participating in continuous professional development to stay current in the field.
