The department provides Histopathology, Non Gynae Cytology, Andrology, Muscle, Nerve, Immunohistochemistry, Molecular, and Mortuary services for Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust and surrounding primary care centres. We are a well-equipped and innovative department being the first laboratory in the UK digitally scanning 100% of surgical slides, also introducing the UK's first automated tissue sectioners.

We process circa 58,000 surgical cases, 2,000 autopsy cases and 6000 non-gynaecological cytology cases per annum. We are a continually improving department, striving for high quality staff and processes. As a training hospital we serve to expand the knowledge and skills of all staff. There are plenty of opportunities to become involved, and further development is encouraged. We have UKAS accreditation to ISO15189 standards. We endeavour to always follow 'The Leeds Way' always putting the patient first.

The Project Support Officer will provide essential support to the Project Manager in project administration and will support the team in delivering new technology and processes in the clinical environment.

The Project Support Officer will need to be able to communicate information effectively, concisely and accurately in a constantly changing environment. The post holder will be expected to work autonomously within their own area, seeking guidance from the Responsible Project Manager as required.

The post holder will provide project support skills to the Project Lead and assist with the following:

Supporting the development and implementation of new innovations and projects within the Histopathology department.

Ensure all project risks and issues are logged and monitored.

Ensure project lessons are logged and reported.

Administer aspects of the project Communication Plans.

Provide support and training to clinical and administrative staff impacted by the change programme.

Carry out benchmarking activities under the guidance of the Project Lead.

Carry out system testing activities under the guidance of the Responsible Project Manager.

Support the Responsible Project with meeting administration.

Contribute to training programme development & implementation.

The post holder will often be occasionally required to work without supervision.

Day to Day Duties and Responsibilities

To support the Project Lead in project administration:

To ensure project files are up to date and auditable.

To monitor the risk and issue logs and ensure they are up to date.

To ensure lessons identified are logged and appropriately circulated.

To ensure project communications are carried out in accordance with project communication plans.

To manage meetings from set up through to minute taking and action tracking

Other administrative duties as required

To support the Project Lead in their change management & business process re-engineering activities:

Arrange Stakeholder workshop/meeting and prepare documentation.

Obtain & evaluate participant feedback.

Carry out system testing in accordance with scripts provided by the Responsible Manager.

Monitor working practices and implementation success as directed by the Project Lead.

To support the Project Lead in change management activities:

Provide administrative support to the Lead carrying out Training.

Support clinical and administrative staff affected by change and provide training on new IT systems.

Liaise with Trust and external trainers to ensure training resources are available as and when required.

To manage meetings from set up through to minute taking and action tracking.

Other duties as commensurate with the grade and role as agreed with line manager.

The jobholder must take responsibility in agreement with his/her line manager for his/her own personal development by ensuring that Continuous Professional Development remains a priority. The jobholder will undertake all mandatory training required for the role.

Well organised, accessible Project Files.

Project progress and plans communicated to all levels within the Trust in accordance with project Communication Plans.

Good working relationship with the Responsible Manager, Project Managers, Implementation Analyst and other project and programme team members.

Provision of excellent administrative support to the Project Lead.

Project training plans executed within the Trust in accordance with project Training Needs Analysis.
