If so, we are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced Pharmacy Technician to work in our state-of-the-art Urgent and Emergency Department and undertake Medicines Administration. This is a dedicated role at the forefront of emergency medicine where you will learn how to administer a range of medicines to a diverse cohort of patients. The exciting role focuses on the administration of medicines following the successful completion of the medicines administration competencies. The role also includes undertaking medicines reconciliations, assessing patients' suitability for self-administration, patient counselling and physical health monitoring. We are a friendly, supportive and enthusiastic team who are passionate about our service and dedicated to ensuring medicines safety is at the heart of patient care. This team includes other Medicines Administration Pharmacy Technicians, who are fully established in their roles. This is a 22.5hr/week fixed term (18months) vacancy. This role will provide opportunities to enhance your clinical skills and knowledge. We are looking for someone with a desire to work closely with patients and to play a central role in the safe and effective use of medicines in the Emergency department. The successful candidate will be provided with comprehensive training to enable them to succeed in, and to develop the role, including skills relating to medicines administration and physical health monitoring. You will need to have excellent communication skills and be confident in interacting with a diverse range of people and staff groups in a variety of settings. About us KEY RESULT AREAS Carry out medicines administration to selected patent in accordance with prescription requirements To undertake competency based training in the preparation and administration of medicines To be competent in the administration of prescribed medicines to allocated inpatients against an inpatient prescription following the Trusts Medicines Management policy To undertake a range of checks on the preparation and administration of medicines including injectables, and Controlled Drugs in accordance with the Medicines Management policy To accurately record the administration of medicines on the inpatient prescription and promote the safe and timely administration of medicines. Offer information and advice to patients when administering medicines. To report any Adverse Drug Reaction(s) to a senior nurse or medical staff Support patients wishing to self-administer their own medicines To contribute to handover of patient related information to medical and nursing teams To work with nursing and medical staff to improve the quality of care provided to inpatients To identify and resolve, by referring to the prescriber, pharmacist or patients notes where necessary, problems and errors in prescribing of a technical nature To work with ward and dispensary based pharmacy teams to improve the quality and efficiency of medicines management to hospital inpatients, ensuring compliance with national standards (e.g. CQC, RPSGB) To dispense medicines in accordance with professional, legal and ethical standards and in agreement with departmental performance standards To provide a source of advice and expertise on matters relating to the provision of medicines and medicines information at discharge. To collect data relating to the activity of the post, undertake audits work and assessment of patient experience To use the electronic prescribing and medicines administration system (EPMA), ensuring that patient data is updated in a timely manner. To provide necessary training for medical and nursing staff, with regular updates if changes are made To support ward / department nursing staff in meeting the required standards for the Safe and Secure handling of medicines, including participation in Audit initiatives
