Job Title: Support Worker
Location: Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, Sheffield

Role Overview:
Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice seeks motivated and energetic Support Workers to join their team. The role involves providing holistic care to children and their families, working alongside healthcare professionals such as nurses and physiotherapists. Support Workers will assist with personal care, participate in therapeutic activities, and support children during various experiences like pool sessions and outings. Opportunities for medication administration training are available once established in the role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advocate for children and families while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Implement care plans in collaboration with parents/carers.
  • Provide emotional support for children and families dealing with illness and bereavement.
  • Assist in delivering complex care interventions for children with health needs.
  • Facilitate palliative and end-of-life care in the hospice and home settings.
  • Maintain high standards of patient care, follow nursing care plans, and keep accurate records.
  • Support development opportunities for children through activities and social interactions.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a care role, with relevant qualifications being beneficial.
  • Commitment to working with children and young people.
  • Ability to provide empathetic support and maintain confidentiality.

Work Environment:
The position requires flexibility to work shifts, including unsociable hours, weekends, and bank holidays. Support Workers may encounter challenging situations with distressed children and families.

Professional Development:
Staff are expected to engage in training and development, including mandatory programs, to enhance their knowledge and skills in palliative care, safeguarding, and equality practices.
