Band Consultant: £105,504 to £139,882 a year 12 PA's per week  PERMANENT

We are looking to recruit a Consultant Surgeon with an interest in Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery to join our forward thinking Department.

The aim of this appointment is to expand the breadth and quality of the General Surgeon Service and the delivery of care across the trust due to increased demand. The postholder will be based in either Scunthorpe or Grimsby General Hospital but will be expected to deliver care across all Trust sites. This post will support the General Surgical Service including on-call commitments for General Surgery.

The successful post holder will have the opportunity to be appointed as Honorary Senior Lecturer at Hull York Medical School (HYMS). This honorary appointment is in recognition of contribution to teaching and research and holders of honorary titles may request access to HYMS and University premises and facilities, systems and library services.

Enthusiastic surgical colleagues are invited to apply for this permanent post which is being advertised with a view to finding the right candidate to fill an existing vacancy and looking to expand the General Surgery Department. This post will be available from August 2024. This is a Consultant General Surgeon post, who has experience in general and laparoscopic surgery and endoscopy skills and an interest in Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery . The unit provides elective and emergency general surgery, upper gastrointestinal, general and colorectal surgery, including cancer, and a JAG accredited endoscopy unit.

This post will maintain the efficiency and capacity of the Department, and aid the recovery of waiting times following COVID.

Applications are sought from candidates who will help deliver General Surgery in both emergency and elective settings. The appointee will join the current team of surgeons where there is a tradition of support for consultant colleagues.

The unit currently runs a 1 in 6 or 1:7 consultant of the week duty rota on each of the Trust main sites responsible for emergency admissions.

The postholder will be required to create effective relationships with clinical colleagues as well as members of the management team Senior management is supportive of the service and related opportunities for development.

The appointee will be required to deliver high quality care to the patients presenting to the Department.

The Consultant on call rota will be a 1:6 or 1:7 basis with internal cover between Consultants for annual leave, lieu and study leave. No elective duties are scheduled whilst on call.
