The unit features 6 enhanced recovery beds, with an expanded capacity expected soon, and supports elective surgeries from Monday to Saturday, operating on a 12-hour shift basis covering day and night. Both full-time and part-time positions are available, and the role promises diverse experiences for nurses committed to lifelong learning and skill enhancement in a critical care setting. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) at James Cook University Hospital, which has an established reputation for being a warm, welcoming and supportive department.
PACU supports the JCUH (The James Cook University Hospital) Theatre department and surgical services to deliver an enhanced immediate recovery pathway for the initial 24 to 48 hours post operatively prior to returning to the general ward. PACU works closely alongside the surgical and anaesthetic Multi-Disciplinary Team caring for post-operative patients from many specialities including Orthopaedics, neurosurgery, Urology, General Surgery, Gynaecology, ENT, Maxillo Facial, Plastic Surgery, vascular surgery and cancer services. This opens up a diverse range of development opportunities for nurses embarking on their career in critical care or those experienced nurses with an enthusiasm for lifelong learning.
PACU has 6 enhanced recovery beds and supports the Elective Surgery program Monday to Saturday inclusively, with 12 hour shifts covering both days and nights. Full and part-time applicants are welcomed. With the new extended/refurbished 8 bedded unit opening to 8 patients soon.
