There are bespoke day-case, outpatient and laboratory Haematology services across the acute hospital sites of Birmingham: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), Heartlands Hospital (BHH), Good Hope Hospital (GHH) and non-acute site of Solihull Hospital (SH), with a network of clinics, CNS/nurse-led services, ACP and AOS provision at all sites, with Consultant led care.
There will be the integrated HCT weekly multidisciplinary team meeting, plus monthly quality meetings, educational sessions, journal clubs and mortality and morbidity meetings. For the ward attending commitments, the appointee will be expected to provide reciprocal cover for periods of leave.

University Hospitals Birmingham Foundation Trust (UHB) is recruiting to a 12m locum Haematology Consultant, to join their dynamic team. The successful post holder will join an innovative team of Consultant Haematologists, to deliver a general haematology and non-malignant service in one of the largest trusts in the UK.
The successful appointee will deliver general haematology and non-malignant haematology sub-specialist clinical care, offering expertise and care to patients from across the West Midlands region. The successful candidate can expect to work within an innovative and supportive team, compromising of Consultant Haematologists, SpRs, Physician Associates, Speciality Doctors, Junior Doctors, CNS, Nurses, Advanced Clinical Practitioners and Pharmacists, whilst being supported by dedicated administrative teams.
UHB Haematology Service delivers tertiary specialised services include regional Comprehensive Haemophilia Centre including provision of gene therapy, TTP, specialist integrated haematological malignancy diagnostic service (siHMDS), Level 3 & 4 stem cell transplantation, CAR-T cell therapy, teenage and young adult (TYA) cancer care, apheresis/plasma exchange and a nationally recognised active academic programme; inpatient care is based at the QEHB site, which has 60+ inpatient beds and there is an additional dedicated Young Persons Unit for TYA care.
Duties of the post
The site specialist interests will be agreed on acceptance of the post, but will require general haematology and non-malignant haematology specialist interests.
Clinical
The appointee should be able to demonstrate experience and specific interest in the management of patients with haematological disorders, including management of thrombosis and bleeding disorders, general haematology and laboratory haematology. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop disease specific areas of interest, working alongside the current Haemostasis, Consultative and Thrombosis (HCT) team working across sites.
Inpatients
The appointee will participate in the attending and on-call rota , supported by and working with clinical team's trust-wide. They will be responsible for reviewing inpatients and providing specialist liaison advice.
Outpatients
The appointee will be expected to participate in 3-4 clinics per week, predominantly dealing with general haematology and thrombosis , but also consideration for other subspecialist workload could be considered, depending on applicants experience to date. The delivery of outpatient activity will include opportunities to support clinical trial recruitment and PI roles within the department.
