As a Respiratory Nurse Specialist, the post holder is responsible for the delivery of Asthma and COPD investigations and reviews.
OneMedical Group are actively recruiting a highly motivated and enthusiastic Respiratory Nurse Specialist to join our teams of professionals in Milton Keynes. Our first Primary Care Network (PCN), known as OneMK, was launched on 1 September 2023, bringing together our three services across Milton Keynes: Whitehouse, Neath Hill and Brooklands.
The Respiratory Nurse Specialist will play an important role in the future of the service and will be part of a wider team, who can be agile, innovative, and future focused.
As a Respiratory Nurse Specialist, the post holder is responsible for the delivery of Asthma and COPD investigations and reviews. The post holder will support patients to better manage their long-term conditions, using a personalised care planning approach. You will work collaboratively with the Local Multi-Disciplinary Team to meet the needs of patients. The Respiratory Nurse Specialist will support the wider Practice Nursing team as well as the Health Care Assistants and Nursing Associates, providing advice and guidance where applicable. They are expected to work collaboratively with the wider team to deliver excellent nursing care and to maximise Practice income such as QOF and enhanced service contracts.
The successful candidate will review, suggest changes/ improvements to local and group wide policies and procedures. Once agreed as the Respiratory Nurse Specialist, you will support the implementation of the changes.

The Respiratory Nurse will be responsible for (the list is not exhaustive):
- Carry out holistic and thorough reviews of patients with asthma and COPD
- Initiate investigations for patients on respiratory pathways
- Implement and evaluate individual care plans for patients with asthma and COPD, ensuring they have an understanding of how to manage any exacerbations or changes in symptoms
- Identify and manage appropriately patients at risk of developing respiratory disease
- Recommend and prescribe (where qualified to do so) inhaled therapies in line with local and national guidance, aiming for good symptom control
- Carry out spirometry if indicated, and interpret the results (where qualified to do so)
- Produce accurate, contemporaneous and complete records of patient consultations, consistent with legislation, policies and procedures
- Advise, support and if required, administer vaccinations recommended for respiratory patients, including influenza and pneumonia vaccines.
- Produce accurate, contemporaneous and complete records of patient consultations, consistent with legislation, policies and procedures
- Carry out home visits for respiratory patients who are not able to attend the surgery
- Offer expert advice in the management of the patients long term condition
- Undertake other practice nursing duties as directed by the Lead Nurse, or Clinical Lead
