This is a part-time position for 18.75 hours per week as a Specialist Occupational Therapist at Badby Park, a specialist inpatient neurological rehabilitation and complex care service for people with neurological illnesses, acquired brain and spinal cord injuries. The role involves leading in the advanced assessment and treatment of residents, promoting health and independence, and providing clinical leadership, supervision, and consultation to the wider multidisciplinary team.

As a Specialist Occupational Therapist, you will be responsible for accepting clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of residents, formulating and delivering individual occupational therapy management and treatment programmes, and taking responsibility for the clinical supervision, education, and performance of more junior members of the therapy staff, students, and therapy assistants. You will need to demonstrate extensive and relevant post-qualification clinical experience, highly effective clinical reasoning skills, and highly specialist knowledge of relevant assessment and treatment models.

You will be managing a designated caseload using theoretical and practical experience, completing assessments, planning, implementing interventions, and evaluating outcomes aligned to care plans.

Your responsibilities as a Specialist Occupational Therapist will include:

• Accepting clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of residents, and to organise this efficiently and effectively with regard to clinical priorities and use of time and supporting junior therapists in this process.
• Formulating and delivering an individual Occupational Therapy management and treatment programme based on specialist knowledge of clinically reasoned and evidence-based practice and treatment options. Employ advanced clinical assessment, knowledge and reasoning skills to provide treatment using a broad range of techniques and other alternative options.
• Taking responsibility and overseeing the clinical OT supervision, education and performance of more junior members of therapy staff, students (when present), and therapy assistants. Undertake the supervision/appraisal of these staff groups, ensuring that all policies and procedures are strictly adhered to.

To be a successful Specialist Occupational Therapist you will need:

• Occupational Therapy profession qualification
• Extensive and relevant post qualification clinical experience with children and young people who have complex needs
• Extensive experience of applying occupational frames of reference and approaches
• Demonstrates evidence highly effective clinical reasoning skills
• Highly specialist knowledge of relevant assessment and treatment models
