Responsible for receiving deliveries, unpacking & storage, ensuring correct stock rotation.

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join our team in the busy Pathology department at Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield.

Applicants for this position will be reliable, trustworthy and be able to work to tight deadlines under pressure. You will be able to work on your own as well as part of a team.

A good, basic level of education is required that demonstrates a good understanding of the English language and a good level of numeracy.

Good verbal and written communication skills are essential along with fast, accurate keyboard skills. An ability to follow instructions, work under pressure and demonstrate good manual dexterity will be an advantage.

You will be required to use a variety of IT systems including Microsoft Office, Excel and the hospital ICE system to identify requests for consumables, so an understanding of English and keyboard skills are required.

The main duties of this role include:

  • Responsible for receiving deliveries, unpacking & storage, ensuring correct stock rotation
  • Coordinate stock control of a myriad of products including analyser reagents, sample collection bottles, pathology request forms & transport bags.
  • Amend standing orders to maintain stock levels
  • Coordinate deliveries from suppliers
  • Package and supply consumables to Phlebotomy across the trust.
  • Assist in providing supplies to GP Practices, hospital wards and departments who are users of the Pathology service at MYTT.
  • Assist lab staff in emptying hazardous waste bins & arranging collection.
  • Ensure access is maintained to corridors & fire exits.
  • To carry out administrative duties in a manner that supports departmental targets and ensures compliance with standard operating procedures.

About us

Undertake the following tasks associated with the supply of products from NHS Logistics Authority or locally based Store fully complying with the Trusts Standing Financial Instruction and Standing Orders:

Ensure that all discrepancies are correctly recorded and that appropriate corrective action is taken.

Undertake the following tasks associated with the provision of a stock management and replenishment service to customers at ward/department level enabling them to maintain agreed stock levels of pre agreed essential products.

In conjunction with department managers undertake reviews of the stockholding range and develop stock holding parameters for regularly ordered stock items for inclusion in the materials management service.

Maintain all records of products and associated stock levels accurately and amend as appropriate.

Check and put away products and handle returns where appropriate.

Undertake periodic reviews and report on products and levels with departmental staff.

Identify any surplus stock that can either be re-assigned to other departments or returned to NHS Logistics for credit and action accordingly.

Assist in producing management information that assists in developing and monitoring stock holding levels.

Knowledge and application of UKAS ISO 15189 with regards to receipt of goods.

Undertake the following tasks associated with the provision of a stores and/or receipt and distribution service.

Receive goods, check quality and quantity in line with UKAS ISO 15159.

Ensure goods are in a clean, safe and secure condition before issue and onward transmission to departments.

Co-ordinate the distribution of goods to departments in conjunction with the Trusts transport department.

Prepare and despatch goods for return to suppliers.

Undertake stock replenishment routines where applicable for any locally held items.

Where appropriate issue any locally held goods for onward/internal distribution.
