About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to join our innovative and dynamic CAMHS team. The post holder will be a member of one of our community-based teams working in partnership with social care, health and education agencies. To deliver accessible therapeutic support for children & young people with a range of emotional & mental health difficulties. The children & young people who access our services present with a wide range of emotional and mental health difficulties ranging from mild to moderate.

As a CAMHS Level 2 Practitioner you will be an integral team member offering consultation, assessment and evidence-based interventions to children and young people we serve.

The post-holder will work as part of the Targeted CAMHS Citywide team in the community as part of a multi disciplinary team delivering, high-quality; brief outcome focused therapeutic interventions for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties, these may include anxiety, low mood and behavioural difficulties.


The ideal candidate will have:

  • Relevant professional qualification in mental health nursing, psychotherapy, counselling or above in a relevant field. IAPT or therapeutic training highly desirable, for example; Post graduate qualification in CBT, BA counselling or psychotherapy.
  • Direct experience as practitioner in a mental health setting with children.
  • Knowledge and skills of how to work therapeutically with Children & Young People with anxiety, depression, and other mental health related problem issues.
  • Ability to provide effective interventions, experience of facilitating group work, training, consultation and assessments including risk assessments. This role will involve working with vulnerable Children & Young People with risk behaviours.
  • Knowledge and existing skills regarding a range of therapeutic interventions and their application to practice for a wide range of mental health presentations. Including a sound knowledge of theory and its application to evidence based practice.

A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.

The post-holder will work as part of the Targeted CAMHS Citywide team in the community as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering, high-quality; brief outcome focused therapeutic interventions for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties, these may include including anxiety, low mood and behavioural difficulties

The post holder will be a member of one of our community-based teams working in partnership with social care, health and education agencies.




2. Principal duties and responsibilities


Child and family work

  1. To deliver good outcomes for children through completing assessments and formulations regarding young peoples emotional and mental health needs and creating an effective plan for intervention.

  1. To ensure delivery of appropriate services to children and their families, according to their assessed needs. This will include direct interventions based on a range of evidence based therapeutic interventions. To provide individual and group therapeutic interventions with children, young people and parents and carers. Making decisions and managing risk appropriately regarding effective care planning and pathways.

3. Use skills required in order to enable children and young people,

and where appropriate parents/carers to collaborate and co-produce their own agreed plan of care.

  1. To offer consultation and training and joint working regarding childrens and young peoples emotional and mental health needs. Enhancing skills and knowledge within the partner agencies and across the community. To maintain professional case records, including inputting onto the Departments information systems and accessing information from relevant registers. Producing reports to a high standard.

  1. To contribute to the CAMHS Single Point of Access (SPA) by identifying and managing risk, liaising with other professionals and providing timely responses.


Partnerships and networking.



  1. To contribute to the creation and maintenance of good working relationships at all levels with colleagues in partner agencies, local community groups and other City Council Departments, representing the team at inter-agency meetings as appropriate.

  1. To work with effectively with Community (previously Specialist) CAMHS in line with clinical governance and departmental policies. Act as an effective liaison ensuring clear communication between and within childrens services.

  1. To work flexibly as a team member in a multi agency team to develop the quality of our services, to improve the mental health and emotional wellbeing of the children and young people in the locality. Working within the CAPA model and being committed to develop and expand skills and therapeutic knowledge to work with a wide range of mental health needs.

Accountability.

  1. To manage own workload effectively, maintaining appropriate records and preparing and submitting reports as required.

  1. To participate in individual supervision with their mental health specialist and their line manager, as well as undertaking appropriate training and developmental opportunities and attending team meetings as required.



  1. To demonstrate commitment and sensitivity to ensuring equality of opportunity in service delivery.

  1. To provide the highest standards of safeguarding to children young people/vulnerable adults who access our services, adhering to NCC's safeguarding polices and procedures.

  1. Complete all requirements relating to data collection.

14. Ensure the maintenance of standards of own professional practice according to the post holder's employer. Ensure appropriate adherence to any new recommendations or guidelines set by the relevant departments

  1. Ensure that confidentiality is protected.

  1. Ensure that any risks or issues related to the safety and wellbeing of anyone the post holder comes into contact with during their professional duties are communicated and shared with appropriate parties in order to maintain individual safety and the public interest.
