Band 8a: £53,755 to £60,504 a year Pro-Rata (7.5 hours per week)  PERMANENT 

We are looking to recruit a part-time Pharmacist Teaching Fellow to work 1 day aweek (there may be the opportunity for increased hours in future, subject to agreement by the successful candidate and their manager,as the expected number of medical students increases) in the Undergraduate Medical Education Department, as a member of the teaching team for the University of Sunderland Medical School.

The main duties of the role include planning, delivery and support of teaching related to pharmacy for the University of Sunderland medical students.

The Teaching Fellow will also provide appropriate specialist medicines information and guidance to the teaching team in relation to pharmaceutical matters.

This is a Band 8 appointment for pharmacists seeking opportunities to enhance their careers. Though we would also encourage the application of more senior pharmacists. The salary scale for this post is equivalent to Band 8 or commensurate to the grading of the post holder (maximum banding 8a).

The Pharmacist Teaching Fellow is an essential member of a well-established team within undergraduate Medical Education delivery. The Pharmacist Teaching Fellow will co-ordinate with the team to plan, deliver, assess and evaluate medical school education in both the classroom and clinical environment for students across the five years of the MBBS programme. The post holder will be responsible for developing, organising and delivering evidence based teaching sessions, to include practical skills sessions relevant to prescribing and administering medications. The post holder is expected to mentor medical students and provide pastoral support where needed

Working collaboratively with the Clinical Nurse Lecturers and the Teaching Fellows, they will establish and maintain clinical standards while ensuring that the medical curriculum is being delivered successfully at STSFT. They will have expert knowledge as a clinical pharmacist and will act as both an autonomous practitioner and a source of expertise for students and colleagues on topics such as pharmacology, prescribing and administering medications. The Pharmacist Teaching Fellow will be expected to demonstrate innovative teaching and lecturing skills across a wide range of educational opportunities, including lectures, tutorials, bedside teaching / teaching in clinical areas, mock ward and simulation sessions. The role requires the use of advanced technology with video and live streaming options.
