The Head of Legal Services at Blackburn with East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is responsible for leading the in-house legal team, focusing on inquests and claims management to ensure effective representation at coroners' courts and the timely settlement of claims. This role involves integrating legal issues with the patient safety and quality governance teams, making strategic recommendations on risk management, and overseeing the Legal Services Team's performance and development.

Key responsibilities include managing a caseload of high-value claims, ensuring compliance with relevant protocols, liaising with claimants and NHS Resolution, and conducting investigations in line with Trust policies. Additionally, the role entails handling inquest cases, providing support to witnesses, and ensuring that learning from inquests is implemented to improve patient care and safety. The Head of Legal Services will also participate in audits to assess policy effectiveness and contribute to broader governance discussions within the Trust.
