Band 5: £29,970 to £36,483 a year per annum  PERMANENT 

We are a small, friendly and diverse team who welcome applicants to join us in our endoscopy department. We are looking for a friendly and committed registered nurse to join the team. We have great opportunities for further education and full supervision, mentorship and support will be offered.

We are a fully JAG accredited department with 3 procedure rooms here at Airedale General Hospital, where we offer diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, including deep sedation, anaesthetic supported lists. We also offer bronchoscopy, ERCP, and Bowel Cancer Screening. As a nurse within the endoscopy unit you will also support cystoscopy procedures within our urology investigations unit.

You will be part of the team supporting patients during their procedure and recovery, admission and discharge, offering advice and guidance, health promotion and supporting patients with potential cancer diagnosis.

To work as a core member of the Endoscopy team and in partnership with patients, carers and the wider multidisciplinary team in assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating high quality care, ensuring patients have a positive experience.

We offer Monday-Friday service within which working hours are 08.00- 18.00. We also provide an out of hours on-call service during the night and at weekends. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in this rota once fully competent.

  • Be accountable for personal nursing practice; always adhering to the NMC code and acting in a professional manner.

  • Maintain a high standard of patient care. Be able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures.

  • Keep up to date with current research and developments in clinical practice; develop an understanding of the Joint Advisory Group GRS standards.

  • Act as an assessor/ supervisor to students and Health Care Support Workers.

  • Contribute to teaching and assessing of learners, completing the staff induction programme for new recruits (when competent to do so).

  • Participate and assist in research at unit level.

  • Undertake study to meet the requirements of CPD and professional revalidation.

  • Act as a role model for junior staff.

  • Undertake training as required to develop competence in the Endoscopy Nurse Skill Set (detailed on page 6).

  • Participate in the on-call rota once competency assessments are completed.

  • Maintain custody of controlled drugs, checking, administering, and maintaining ward stock, always adhering to trust policy.

  • Learn to use and maintain specialised endoscopy equipment.

  • To develop knowledge and skills within respiratory services i.e. Bronchoscopy, Endo bronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) and therapeutic drains.

  • To develop knowledge and skills within urology supporting and assisting during cystoscopy procedures.

  • Attending theatre to assist with patients undergoing endoscopies under general anaesthetic.

  • To develop knowledge and skills within Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). This includes the wearing of lead aprons.

  • Report accidents, untoward occurrences, complaints, loss or damage of equipment theft and report to Sister/Charge Nurse immediately in accordance with hospital policy and document appropriately.

  • Communicate and co-operate with other nursing units and departments as required.

  • Assist in staff induction programme for new recruits.
