Band 6: £42,939 to £50,697 a year per annum inc HCAS (pro rata if P/T)  PERMANENT  GOOD SALARY 

The applicant will be based working within West Middlesex Hospital with a variety of teams and services support patients with alcohol related admission. The service operates 7 days a week and the applicant will be required to work a shift pattern that includes evenings and weekends.

The applicant will engage with patients at a variety of stages in their care from the Emergency Department through to the discharge lounge.

Our aim is to improve the health outcomes of patients and minimise potential returns to hospital admission using a variety of tools and skills, including: Brief intervention, enhance brief intervention, Motivational Interviewing , comprehensive assessment and onward referral.

The team also support patients admitted and undergoing medically assisted withdrawal from alcohol to support with discharge planning and relapse prevention with the aim of positive outcomes for the patient.


Clinical Duties:

  • To work as a member of the multidisciplinary team based in West Middlesex Hospital in the management and treatment provision of the specialist service to people with problematic use of novel psychoactive substances with associated problem drink and drug use attending the service/unit, including harm minimisation approaches, motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, care planning, individual intervention, health assessments and education and detoxification programmes.
  • To be able to assess and case manage clients who inject drugs, in particular assessing injection sites and be conversant with the precepts of harm minimisation.
  • To manage the transfer of individuals between agencies and services from West Middlesex Hospital to the patient Borough of residence.
  • To counsel individuals about their substance use and related behaviours, using motivational interviewing, relapse management and other evidence-based interventions
  • To provide clinical advice and support within West Middlesex Hospital to other colleagues within the health care setting and to other agencies concerned with substance misuse.
