The Cardiology, Surgery and Critical Care OT team uniquely works across acute and critical care wards. In total we cover 13 different specialties which offers extensive opportunities for learning and advancing clinical skills. This includes neuro experience; working with patients who have had; a stroke post-surgery, a hypoxic brain injury post cardiac arrest, and supporting wards with delirium management.
As a team we regularly evaluate our service, and champion evidence-based practice. Progressive occupational therapy, within our specialities, is a team objective that we work to achieve in order to meet the needs of the diverse patient groups we treat.
The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent core occupational therapy skills in assessment and intervention including; rehabilitation, seating, positioning, splinting, and discharge planning. A good understating of stoke and / or neurology assessments and interventions is essential for this role.
A willingness to learn and develop further, both clinically and professionally, is essential. The successful applicant must have an open mind to new ways of working and be flexible, dynamic, and forward thinking. Strong leadership qualities are essential in this post.
You will demonstrate an ability to work autonomously and provide support to other members of the team including; peers, Band 5 OTs (including preceptees), support workers, and students. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work flexibly to support the needs of the service.
- 9 months maternity cover WTE 37.5 hours per week
- Core hours are worked 8am-4pm, Monday Friday.
- Additional duties will include participation in weekend working. Weekends are rostered with expected frequency of 1 every 8 weeks (note frequency may increase dependent on service need and staffing levels)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an existing band 6 or experienced band 5 to join the Cardiology, Surgery, and Critical Care Team, based at City Hospital. This post is a 9 month fixed-term, full-time role to provide maternity cover. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a forward thinking and dynamic team.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is committed to further improving their clinical skills, and providing quality care to patients. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience of complex case management, rehabilitation skills, and leadership qualities. Stroke/neuro experience is essential for this role.
The successful candidate will join a supportive and established team of occupational therapists and will have the opportunity to contribute to service develop and provide innovative practice.
Areas covered include: cardiology, cardiac surgery, urology, infectious diseases, gynaecology, critical care, colorectal, hepatobiliary, and upper GI.

- Supporting with allocation and prioritisation of caseloads
- Complex case management and discharge planning
- Goal setting and rehabilitation
- Working as an integrated part of the MDT, across specialties, including joint working
- Providing clinical support to members of the team
- Providing supervision to more junior staff (e.g. band 5, support workers)
- Supporting student placements
- Promoting and support professional development of team members
- Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in all clinical areas
- Working with band 7's and other senior staff to develop the service and encourage evidence based practice
- Engaging in, and leading, in-service training, as well as providing education to wards and promotion of the OT role
- Deputising for band 7's when required
- Working flexibly - including weekend working
