An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in the South Coast's largest critical care unit for a Sister/Charge nurse in Surgical High Dependency Unit (SHDU). We have one permanent full time position available. Critical care comprises of General ICU, Neurological ICU, and Cardiac ICU who we are proud of for their national status and reputation within critical care.

SHDU is a 10 bedded elective unit. The SHDU admits patients with diverse and complex needs following a variety of surgeries as well as providing high quality care to patients that are stepped down from the General intensive care unit.

About us

As a Sister / Charge Nurse within the Surgical High Dependency you will be expected to promote the delivery of a high standard of patient-centred care. You will assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised care, providing support to other members of the multidisciplinary team. You will be expected to lead, motivate and supervise a team in collaboration with your Senior Sister/Senior Charge Nurse to demonstrate effective managerial and leadership skills.

-To be responsible for assisting the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse in the management of the ward over 24 hour period, ensuring adequate standards of care are maintained using available resource

-To help create a conducive learning environment and to provide clinical nursing advice to nurses at

Band 5 and below.

-To train and supervise junior staff in collaboration with the Education and Training Team.

-To assist in the planning of duty rotas, organising 24-hour nursing cover and adequate skill mix, acting on shortfalls in staffing levels which will affect the standards and delivery of patient care and informing Senior Sister / Charge Nurse.

You will require experience as a band 5 in an Acute Adult Critical Care Unit. Candidates should be energetic with commitment to working flexibility, with the collaboration of an established team, in accordance with agreed policies and within available resources which have the Trust core values at heart. You should be able to work in pressurised situations with maturity, motivation and enthusiasm. You must have key qualities demonstrating sound leadership skills in motivating a team in an evolving environment, with characteristics of compassion and commitment to provide safe, quality care for patients and their relatives.
