The Consultants work in teams. The teams provide prospective cover for clinics, MAU and elective Caesarean section lists. Therefore there has to be a degree of flexibility for these sessions.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake managerial duties associated with the care of their patients and the running of their Clinical Department. They will have an understanding of the wider health agenda and modern NHS.
The successful candidate will be required to work in a multidisciplinary team and supervise juniors.

The Leicester Royal Infirmary cares for 6 000 deliveries each year. The Leicester General Hospital has 4200 deliveries as well as being the referral centre for transfers from Melton Mowbray. Two thirds of women begin their care with a midwifery lead. Consultants are encouraged to have a specialist service in obstetrics as well as standard setting in all aspects of care. Joint working with anaesthesia, haematology, endocrinology, renal medicine and cardiology is well established.
There are 4 Maternal-Fetal Medicine Subspecialists within the service and further development of Fetal Medicine is a priority. Sub-speciality training for Maternal-Fetal Medicine is established across both sites and there is currently a sub-speciality trainee post. In addition, all RCOG obstetric ATSMs are covered. Diagnostic and intervention procedures are available for most conditions and there are close links with neonatal physicians, surgeons and clinical geneticists.

Duties and Responsibilities of the post
The department is looking for a dynamic and energetic Obstetrician to contribute to our Tertiary level obstetrics service at University Hospitals of Leicester, NHS Trust.
To provide a weekly antenatal clinic
To participate in the acute obstetric service at UHL, including Maternity Assessment Unit, ward rounds, Caesarean section lists
Supervise and train junior medical staff.
Undertake sessions on the Delivery Suite i.e. participate in the hot week, and work closely with midwifery and other colleagues to engender a supportive and mutually respectful atmosphere.
Take part in multidisciplinary case discussions and care planning.
Teaching, complaint and incident management and administration.
To be involved in appraising and assessing juniors.
To contribute to ongoing research activities at UHL. To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
