We are looking to recruit a maintenance assistant into our team at University Hospital Southampton Foundation NHS Trust.The ideal candidate will gain experience working on the following systems.o Air Handling Units & Ventilation Planto Electrical Systems such as lighting circuits/UPSo Heating & Cooling systemso Nurse-call Systemso Softening planto Fire SystemsThis is an entry level role and has no formal experience or qualification requirements; however, a general aptitude for physical and practical tasks is advantageous. Experience performing "DIY" activities such as home renovations or vehicle maintenance will give transferable skills, as would any other activity that involves use of basic hand tools.The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities;o Good communication skillso Spatial Awareness & manual dexterityo Ability to work physical tasks (Lifting, carrying etc)o Working knowledge of basic hand-toolso Keenness to develop their skill set and knowledge

Routine maintenance tasks such as component replacement, recording performance data and plant room inspectionsWorking with contractors to deliver maintenance worksWorking under direction of trade & supervisory staff to undertake engineering repairsCo-ordinating materials and resources to ensure they are available when & where requiredBasic plumbing & electrical tasks The role will include comprehensive training to allow effective delivery of the role. The right candidate will also find opportunities to undertake formal engineering qualifications to allow progression to higher roles such as electrician or mechanical fitter.
Good written and verbal communication skillsComputer literate (able to use PDA/Smartphone and MS Outlook for emails)Physically fit; able to climb a ladder and manoeuvre loads up to 25kgDesirablePrevious experience in a similar rolePrevious experience performing similar tasks such as DIY, Vehicle Repair or Metal/woodworkUnderstanding of engineering principles and safe working practicesWe OfferAttractive benefits package including enrolment into the NHS pension scheme and access to discounts at a wide selection of retailers.Annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays) starting at 35 days and rising to 41 days (after 10 years of service)Basic salary is dependent on previous relevant experience and is £23,615 paCore working hours are Mon Fri 07:30 15:30 however you will be expected to participate in an out-of-hours roster that requires weekday working 1400 2200 approximately 1-weekday-in-10 and weekend working approximately 1 weekend in 10.The Estates Maintenance department has a demonstrable track record in developing staff to enhance personal learning through training and promotional opportunities.
