The Community Midwife at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board in Wrexham will serve as an autonomous lead professional, providing comprehensive midwifery care to mothers and babies throughout pregnancy, labor, and the postnatal period. The role involves assessing and developing care plans, identifying deviations from normal circumstances, and making appropriate referrals to other healthcare professionals as needed. The midwife will work collaboratively within the guidelines set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and the Health Board while ensuring that the care environment remains conducive to patient needs.

Additionally, the role requires effective communication with patients and colleagues, addressing performance issues, and being knowledgeable about child protection procedures for appropriate referrals. Proficiency in Welsh is desirable, but English-speaking candidates are also encouraged to apply. The position emphasises the importance of interpersonal skills to navigate complex patient care scenarios and deliver high-quality support to families during their maternity journey.

To provide midwifery care to mothers and babies throughout pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period under the guidance of other health care professionals where it has been assessed that there has been a deviation from the "norm".

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

To be responsible for assessment, development, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for normal midwifery throughout pregnancy, labour and post delivery seeking the advice of the shift coordinator as necessary.
To work within the rules and guidelines of the NMC and the BCUHB.
Seeking the advice of the shift coordinator as necessary identify clients for referral to other specialists when needs and risks are beyond one's own scope of practice, working in collaboration with these specialists to continue to meet the needs of clients.
To identify and report poor performance issues, addressing these with individuals where appropriate.
To inform the shift coordinator, bleep holder, or Supervisor of Midwives when agreed standards cannot be met.
Ensure that the ward environment is conducive to meeting the needs of the patients at all times.
To be aware of the Health Board child protection procedures and have the knowledge and ability to make appropriate referrals to social services.
To communicate sensitively and effectively with a wide range of people in a manner which promotes positive working relationships.
With the support of the shift coordinator effectively communicate and explore complex issues and make complex decisions and judgements relating to patient care using appropriate interpersonal skills e.g. negotiating, persuading, reassuring, empathising.
