The role of Special School Nurse at Bedelsford School in Chessington involves delivering essential nursing care to children and young people aged 2 to 19 with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), and complex health needs. As part of a small team, the nurse collaborates with a fellow nurse and two healthcare assistants to provide holistic, child and family-centered care. Responsibilities include assessing and planning clinical nursing care, administering medications, managing gastrostomy and tracheostomy care, delivering specialist training to families and staff, and participating in multi-professional meetings to ensure continuity of care.

This term-time position also requires mentoring junior staff and student nurses while engaging with families to provide support and referrals to specialized services. The nurse will have the opportunity to develop a variety of skills within an integrated service that connects health, education, and social care, making a meaningful impact on the lives of the children served.
