The Learning Disability and Autism Specialist Nurse at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust plays a crucial role within the Complex Health service, providing specialized guidance and interventions for individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism (LD&A) accessing physical health care at Colchester Hospital. The nurse will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to assess patient needs, plan care, and implement reasonable adjustments to ensure accessible and high-quality services for this demographic. Additionally, the role involves leading initiatives to enhance understanding of patient experiences, training and supporting staff, and participating in governance processes to maintain service quality.

The Specialist Nurse will also represent the Trust in broader LD&A forums, fostering partnerships with other organisations to enhance the safety and effectiveness of services for patients with LD&A. Expectations include contributing to the development of training programs, undertaking service data analysis to better understand patient needs, and ensuring that Trust policies align with national standards. Ultimately, the aim is to empower both the workforce and patients, ensuring compassionate care that addresses the unique complexities faced by individuals with LD&A.
