T4 is an 18 bedded clinical area with an excellent established nursing team who will be able to support and assist your leadership style to ensure high standards of care is delivered to our patient cohort.
T4 Neurosurgery High care Unit is based in the modern and spacious Tertiary block at the University Hospital of Wales and this is the tertiary referral centre for Mid and South/West Wales.
This unit is part of the Neurosciences Directorate that covers UHW and UHL.
As a ward manager you will oversee the day to day management of our highcare area. On T4, we care for patients undergoing complex neurosurgery to their brain and spine, and those who have sustained traumatic brain injury. These patients require close observation and monitoring by our team before moving through our service and possibly to rehabilitation at one of our facilities in UHL.
Create and promote a learning culture within the clinical area to support the professional growth and development of all nursing staff, students and (as appropriate) members of the multi-disciplinary team.
The post holder will be able to work autonomously to plan their own work schedule, in view of daily and weekly management responsibilities along with leadership and supervisory aspects of the role.
They will supervise the professional and clinical work of nursing staff within the clinical area allocating work effectively, considering skill and competency of staff and patient requirement and delegate the delivery of care where appropriate.
Take responsibility for effective rostering of staff to ensure the ward has effective skill mix and staffing levels to meet demand of the service; and that staff health and well-being is a key consideration when producing an effective roster.Escalate immediate/significant/persistent quality concerns to the Senior Nurse Manager and/or taking immediate actions, as appropriate.
The post holder will have an ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships with the clinical specialists from across nursing and the wider MDT. Establish and maintain effective team communication using a range of methods to ensure that all staff have access to the information made available to them.
The post holder will be able to Identify and take action when own or others behaviour undermines equality and diversity. Ensure own and the wider nursing team's current knowledge base is maintained in relationto potential need to access spiritual/multi-cultural faith support for patients/carers/staff. Act as a patient advocate at all times.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
