The Specialty Doctor in the Southwark Team Early Psychosis will provide medical input under the supervision of a consultant psychiatrist as part of a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to the care of individuals experiencing early psychosis. Key responsibilities include conducting psychiatric assessments, developing and reviewing treatment plans, performing mental state assessments and physical examinations, and ensuring adherence to Early Intervention Standards for physical health checks. The role also entails participating in multidisciplinary team meetings, coordinating with other agencies and GPs, diagnosing patients using ICD-10 codes, maintaining thorough documentation of patient interactions, and undertaking Mental Health Act assessments as necessary.

The post holder will be actively involved in delivering and evaluating treatment and will need to prepare psychiatric reports for Mental Health Tribunals and other hearings under supervision. A comprehensive understanding of appropriate medical interventions and the ability to recognize and manage treatment-resistant cases are essential. The position requires collaboration within the service framework, adherence to policies, and ongoing risk assessment to ensure the safety and effectiveness of patient treatment.
