Works as a member of the Pain Management Team, contributing to the delivery of the pain management service across the Trust. This will include; advise to clinical teams, GPs, Rowcroft Hospice; Trustwide education for clinical staff; reporting incidents to improve service and patient care; collecting audit data to inform practice/ service change; and supporting the Pain Management lead nurse in the development and improvement of the service.
Will assist in the development and maintenance of the Pain Management Service across the Trust. The role will encompass all aspects of pain management and interlink closely with the outpatient pain service.
Main duties of the job
Clinical responsibilities
To work with the multi-disciplinary team to provide optimum pain relief and symptom management for in-patients.
To deliver nursing care according to the NMC standards.
To participate in the provision of technical devices in delivering acute pain relief and support for patients and staff using these devices.
To evaluate the effectiveness of clinical interventions for pain management.
To ensure a safe environment for patients under the care of the Pain Management Service
To assist, advise and support clinical areas in achieving Trust-agreed standards of pain management.
Participate and complete the Non- medical prescribers course and prescribe appropriately as a non-medical prescriber within the Trust after gaining 12 months of inpatient pain management experience. In line with the NMC and national guidelines for nurse prescribers.
To promote communication between the multi-disciplinary members of the Pain Management Service and clinical areas, in order to ensure seamless continuity of care and delivery of service is maintained.
To act as a specialist resource on all aspects of pain management and related symptom control, using current research to underpin clinical practice.
To assess inpatients (and outpatients) with pain, manage and implement plans of care, and/or refer appropriately across the Pain Services.
Work in accordance with Trust policies and procedures relating to Health and Safety, and Risk management, in order that a safe working environment is maintained.
Undertakes clinical procedures that require dexterity and accuracy e.g. management of Rectus sheath catheter and other regional techniques
Undertake and run clinics which involve follow up and review of, e.g. TENS/ modulators; Patient pain diaries; Lidocaine infusion service: this list is not exhausted.

Work to achieve and work accordingly against the Royal College of Nursing KSF competencies for Pain Management.
Research and AuditTo audit activity within the clinical areas to ensure that agreed standards for acute pain management have been met.
To promote use of evidence-based practice through use of information technology and extensive reading.
To support research projects being undertaken by the Pain Management Team.
Contributes and participates in policy, practice and service change arising from audits, research, complaints etc.
