North Locality MLCO has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join our Community Stroke Rehabilitation Team. This development post provides an opportunity to start as a Band 5 and work to a band 6 post, within a set time frame and on the successful completion of core competencies. You must have some experience of working with adults with communication and/or swallowing difficulties as a student or Band 5.
The successful candidate will hold a varied caseload of patients with acquired swallowing and communication difficulties, working with a specialist Multi-Disciplinary Team and with Speech & Language Therapists within the North Manchester Stroke & Neuro Teams and across the MLCO.
The service is passionate about delivering high quality, patient centred care within patient's own homes and wider community settings. The successful candidate will be required to travel across the city of Manchester. A UK Driving license, access to a vehicle for work, valid work permit and HCPC registration are essential. This post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) enhanced check.
We are committed to continually developing the service and our workforce to deliver the best, evidence-based care for our patients. The successful candidate will be integral to this and will be supported to attend relevant training. We also offer a comprehensive induction programme, regular supervision and appraisals.
To provide assessment and intervention for patients with acquired swallowing and/or communication problems on the Community Stroke Rehabilitation Team caseload.
To work as an autonomous practitioner managing a caseload, with support from a band 7 Speech and Language Therapist. Using evidence-based practice, specialist knowledge from theoretical and practical experience and a high level of problem solving and reasoning skills in doing this.
To work as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team to deliver integrated care plans with patient needs and goals at the forefront of care.
To support and develop more junior registered and non-registered staff members in the service.
To be part of service development, with the opportunity to develop leadership skills.
To meet the 5-6 development competencies within the agreed timeframe.
