Regional Lead for Suicide and Self-Harm Prevention with Public Health Wales in Cardiff
An exciting opportunity for a dynamic, resilient, and experienced person to join the National Suicide and Self Harm Prevention team based in the Strategic Programme for Mental Health, in the NHS Wales Executive You will be responsible for overseeing the regional implementation of the strategic objectives of the national suicide and self-harm prevention strategy [draft] for Wales. You will coordinate and support the North Wales Regional Forum for suicide and self-harm prevention, linking into the multi-agency National Advisory Group, working alongside statutory and third sector agencies, and experts by experience, to ensure that local needs are assessed, communicated and addressed. You will support the development of national or 'once-for-Wales' workstreams, while facilitating their delivery in your region ensuring resources address the reduction of unwarranted variations and inequalities. You will be self-motivated and comfortable working remotely, on behalf of a wide range of stakeholders, balancing the needs and interests of individuals and communities across the region. You will have strong skills in relationship management and facilitating collaboration, while keeping yourself and others to task and to time. An ability to function at a strategic level, with the skills to deliver a multi-agency, evidence-based programme of work are essential for this role. Lead on the coordination of the multi-sectoral delivery of the strategic priorities outlined in the National Suicide Prevention Strategy across the region and ensure that national workstreams are developed and delivered collaboratively, and smoothly at a regional level. Lead and support relevant authorities, organisations, and wider stakeholders in the development, delivery and monitoring of regional suicide prevention strategies and action plans. Function as a central source of expertise and knowledge for the region in relation to suicide and self-harm management and prevention. Facilitate the strategic planning, delivery, and reporting processes of the regional suicide prevention forum, working closely with, and advising the Chair of the forum, and Chairs of any groups that form at a sub-regional level. Represent and advocate for the regions activities and interests at the Public Health Wales National Advisory Group for suicide and self-harm prevention, an advisory body to Welsh Government. About us Qualifications Essential Educated to Masters level or equivalent academic level 7 study or an equivalent level of knowledge and experience. Significant experience at a senior level in a specialist area relating to public health, mental and emotional health, and wellbeing, or in areas or sectors relating to the wider determinants of health. Desirable An accredited project management qualification. A developed understanding of the organisational landscape relating to the area of work, key sources of public funding, and the commissioning and provider organisations, across sectors. Experience Experience of engagement with people with lived experience. Demonstrable experience in managing programmes of work, using project or programme management methodologies and approaches with evidence of associated training. Understanding of legislation and national policy relating to mental and emotional health and wellbeing. Thorough knowledge and understanding of suicide and self-harm. A developed understanding of the organisational landscape relating to the area of work, key sources of public funding, and the commissioning and provider organisations, across sectors. Skills Essential Proficient in the use of standard Microsoft software, such as Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. A developed ability to analyse and explain data and information from different sources, recognising their strengths and limitations, and making appropriate and meaningful interpretations of that intelligence to inform the prioritising and targeting of resources, and the development of policy. Ability to think laterally, problem solve and make decisions. Desirable Experienced in working with public health or population level data, from a range of sources. Experienced in developing evaluation frameworks, identifying metrics and data that can demonstrate the desired outcomes from projects, services, or programmes. Welsh Language Skills are desirable in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.
