The Specimen Reception Area (SRA) Head of Department at Health Services Laboratories in Watford is responsible for overseeing the reception and management of patient samples within the Specimen Reception Department as part of the upcoming Pathology and Phlebotomy services for the West Hertfordshire Hospitals Trust. The role includes supervising support staff, ensuring efficient sample preparation and data entry, and managing the dispatch of samples to laboratories. The successful candidate will maintain a 24/7 staff rota, lead training initiatives, and ensure adherence to health and safety regulations while handling specimens, including those related to research projects.

In addition to managerial duties, the SRA Head will act as a key communicator between laboratory staff and clinicians, address any issues related to specimen labelling, and support quality management initiatives. The role requires flexibility, as it encompasses shift work, including weekends, to ensure adequate staffing and service delivery.
