The successful candidate will work independently, making clinical decisions based on ultrasound findings and referring cases to district general hospitals when necessary. The role also involves teamwork with multidisciplinary staff and the provision of specialist care in a Day Assessment Unit (DAU). Additionally, the position comes with responsibilities for patient counselling and the implementation of departmental policies.
Candidates should expect a collaborative environment supported by a Band 8a Governance lead, and the role offers a flexible Bank contract within the organisation.
We are looking for Midwifery/Obstetric Sonographers who would be interested in having a Bank contract within Powys.
We have scanning opportunities within North or South Powys. Our DAU/USS is situated in Newtown and we scan in Welshpool. We also have a DAU/USS in Llandrindod Wells and also scan in Brecon.
All Powys Midwifery sonographers work as part of a team, offering dating scans and combined screening, NIPT testing, anomaly scans and growth scans for our caseload in Powys. Powys midwife sonographers also offer antenatal care to women who may be having serial scans. There are agreed pathways for referral for any abnormalities or slow growth to the District General Hospitals who border Powys. Powys Midwifery sonographers are Band 7s and there is a Band 8a Governance lead who offers a robust system of image reviews and support and advice to the team.
Powys Maternity services provide a Day Assessment Unit (DAU) and scanning service in Welshpool, Newtown, Llandrindod Wells, Brecon and Ystradgynlais. DAU services are run with the support of a designated Band 3 MSW and DAU also provide GTT and BP monitoring services. Powys midwife sonographers are trained to offer Influenza and Pertussis vaccinations to clients who attend DAU.
Whilst providing a midwifery sonography service, the post holder will also provide health education and smoking cessation advice. The post holder will take the opportunity to ask routine enquiries where possible.

- without direct supervision and under their own responsibility, recommend appropriate clinical decisions arising from findings instigate appropriate follow-up and/or further investigations for any anomalous findings, as per departmental policies, keeping the client informed and gaining appropriate consent.
