This appointment is for a Specialty Doctor in Orthogeriatric Medicine; in Geriatric Medicine to work in the Department of Medicine. The post provides excellent medical experience, teaching, and opportunities for learning. The post's scheduled hours conform to guidance on junior doctors' hours. The hours of work will be Monday to Friday 09:00-17:00. The main purpose of this role will be to provide a help to the orthogeriatric consultant in the Orthogeriatric Service, working closely with the T&O department, to improve the care and outcomes for this group of patients. There is also the opportunity for the successful applicant to work in developing the fracture liaison service . We welcome applicants who will bring innovative ways of working to the Trust. This post may close early if we receive a high volume of interest. Provide a high quality service in general and Geriatric Medicine to the people of Hereford and the surrounding area. Ensure that the patients receive a high standard of care required by the best practice tariff and the National Hip fracture database. Medical input for the surgical team with assistance for frail patients on the surgical ward. To contribute in the redesigning of the fracture liaison service, providing support to the specialist nurses for osteoporosis. Supervision and teaching of junior medical staff in aspects of frailty. Participate in quality improvement and audit of patients managed by the service, including auditing of data of the National Hip fracture database. Communication with general practitioners, patients and relatives / carers Teaching of nurses, other members of the MDT and visiting medical students No fixed research commitment is expected, but research will be encouraged and facilities for it made available whenever possible. The specialty doctor accepts that he/she will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances, at the request of his/her particular consultant, in consultation, where practicable with his/her colleagues, both senior and junior. You must be aware of and put into practice the Health and Safety procedures relevant for each ward or department in which you are required to work, including mandatory training. Please see further duties and responsibilities attached on the job description. About us The Frailty Service is based in a purpose built three-ward block comprising three inpatient wards. The Consultant Geriatricians also have responsibility for inpatients in Leominster Community Hospital and Ledbury discharge to assess beds, undertake ward referrals from other specialties, support the Front Door Frailty team based in the Frailty Same Day Emergency Care (FSDEC) Unit, Virtual Ward and provide a general and movement disorders out patient service.
