I'm James, the current Springbank Ward Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). I have loved being the CNS for this exceptional ward. Having spent the last 7 years here and I am leaving for a development opportunity in a higher education setting.

Springbank, based on our Fulbourn Hospital site in Cambridge, is a 12-bed inpatient recovery unit for women with a diagnosis of borderline personality disorder (BPD) who are struggling to cope with the demands of life outside the hospital, despite input from community psychiatric services.

I have loved my time on Springbank, the team are exceptional, and the role is integral to maintaining the delivery of high-quality care and treatment on the ward. We are a remarkable ward with income generating capacity, allowing for ample development opportunities for our staff. I have personally undertaken a significant amount of training whilst in post, for example I have completed leadership training, professional nurse advocate training, DBT foundation and emotional regulation training.

If you are interested in working with service users with a BPD diagnosis, have a love of teaching and training and want to retain a clinical facing role then this is the ideal post for you. Please get in touch if you are interested in joining us on our journey.

Clear communication, an interest in teaching and development, and relationship building are key for this role. As CNS you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of evidence-based practice are provided. We would expect you to provide inspirational specialist nursing leadership within the team. You will be role modelling high quality patient care, for example we would expect you to be advocating for/demonstrating least restrictive practice and positive risk taking.

In addition to the clinical development work, you will be expected to undertake clinical work 2 days a week as a senior clinician. On these days you will be completing specialist assessments and nursing interventions with service users in addition to supporting the nursing team on shift. You will be expected to continue to strengthen and develop relationships between the nursing team and wider multidisciplinary team to improve patient care.

On Springbank we prioritise staff development and teaching. Every day at 14:00 the staff participate in a teaching/development session including a case discussion session, reflective practice, teaching session. You will be co-ordinated and sometimes leading these sessions.

The Fulbourn site offers free parking, a beautiful setting and easy access.
