The role of a Specialist Mental Health Practitioner at Burnley General Hospital, under the Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust, involves providing mental health support to children and young people within educational settings as part of the Mental Health Support Team for Children and Young People in Education (MHST). The practitioner will conduct mental health assessments, deliver evidence-based interventions, and offer guidance to families and professionals. Additionally, the role includes supervising the Emotional Health Team in schools, developing strategies to enhance emotional well-being, and fostering partnerships between education, health, and primary care. The ideal candidate will have experience with children and families facing complex needs and will demonstrate a commitment to inclusive practices that respect diversity.

The position is critical in promoting mental health awareness and improving access to mental health services in various educational environments, supporting young individuals dealing with mild to moderate mental health difficulties like anxiety and depression. The practitioner will collaborate with educational staff to identify and manage mental health issues while contributing to the ongoing development of the MHST.
