                                                     We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated qualified Sonographer on a permanent contract to join our busy, friendly team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead. This is a future focused post designed to provide the postholder with a training and progression plan to become a fully independent Consultant Breast Radiographer within the Breast Services Team. You must be willing to work to the identified development plan and remain flexible to be able to meet the demands of both ultrasound and breast services.   Our Ultrasound department covers a range of specialities, and we are committed to supporting our sonographers with advanced practice.   The Clinical Support and Screening Business Unit is committed to training and development and encourages all aspects of CPD. Applications are invited from highly motivated sonographers who can demonstrate a specific interest in breast imaging and the knowledge and skills necessary to progress and become a fully independent Consultant Breast Radiographer within a well-supported team environment.   You must hold a a UK recognised Pg Certificate in Medical Ultrasound,  additional ultrasound qualifications would be desirable and you must have at least 2 year's experience working in the NHS.    Successful applicants may be required to scan at our main QE hospital site, at the Blaydon UTC and at the Metrocentre CDC.   To work as a sonographer within the ultrasound team. Responsible for producing high quality ultrasound images within the radiology service both at QEH and satellite diagnostic sites; delivering a first class service meeting the needs of referrers and patients. To perform and independently report on a comprehensive range of ultrasound protocols in accordance with departmental protocols while maintaining the highest quality of patient care and imaging.   Trainee Consultant Breast Radiographer   To train towards delivering autonomous clinical practice to the equivalent level of a Consultant Radiologist including:     interpretation of, and reporting of all mammographic and ultrasound imaging of the breast and axilla.    breast lesion localisations, needle core biopsies and vacuum assisted procedures under stereotactic and ultrasound guidance.     To fulfil the quality standards required by the National Health Breast Screening Programme [NHSBSP] and confirm this by undertaking audit and clinical governance activities.   To train to supervise, mentor and develop other Consultant Radiographers, Advanced Practitioners, and other team members, providing a model of expert practice in terms of knowledge and experience and use clinical research as a basis to extend the scope of practice within the unit.    To act as a source of expert professional advice to medical consultants, other professionals, multi-disciplinary groups, patients, and their carers.   After completion of training and suitable post qualifying experience to provide cover for the Radiology Breast Consultants duties and clinics in order to ensure continuity of the service.    To conduct statistical analysis for compliance with national guidelines.   To fully contribute to Breast MDT     Cross Cutting    Exercise and demonstrate advanced levels of clinical judgment, discretion and clinical decision making.    Be responsible for completing ultrasound guided biopsy, drainage and fine needle aspirations to aid the diagnosis and management for patient treatment.    Participate in evaluation and research to ensure practice is evidence based in order to improve standards of care within ultrasound and breast services.     To analyse complex information from multiple sources and translate findings into recommendations, policy decisions and actions       To lead quality initiatives to continuously improve clinical care standards in line with the clinical governance framework to ensure the highest quality of care is provided in the safest manner
