The Switchboard Operator at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust in Chichester is responsible for managing a 24/7 service that handles between 10,000 to 13,000 incoming and internal calls each week. This role serves as the first point of contact for patients, families, and the public, requiring exceptional customer service and communication skills. Operators respond to emergency alerts, monitor hospital alarms, and coordinate internal communications while maintaining professionalism, particularly in high-pressure situations.

The position is part-time, contracted for 24 hours per week with a rotational shift pattern that includes days, evenings, nights, and weekends. Candidates should possess GCSEs in English, good keyboard skills, and ideally have previous switchboard or IT experience, although training will be provided. The role also involves maintaining operational processes, reporting equipment faults, and ensuring effective response to emergencies, requiring resilience and decision-making skills.
