This opportunity in our experienced Neurology team might be for you!
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain skills and experience by working across our two Stroke and Neuro rehab units.
- A2 Pinderfields - Gain experience assessing and treating patients within our hyper acute stroke unit, as well as working within the acute setting, with experience of providing rehabilitation to patients following stroke and neurological event, as well as being involved in complex discharge planning.
- Ward 5 and 6 Dewsbury - Gain further experience working on the rehab pathway, supporting patients on their rehab journey, gain more experience with upper limb and cognitive rehab working with patients following stroke, acquired brain injury or neurological event. Developing skills in safeguarding, capacity assessments and complex discharge planning.
We will provide regular supervision, there will be regular training opportunities, as well as opportunities to supervise staff and students. There are opportunities to be involved in service development, staff development and influencing service change.
This post is 28.5 hours - with an opportunity to increase to 30 hours from April 25.
- To be responsible for the delivery of a specialised Occupational Therapy intervention within the Neurology team, utilising in-depth theoretical and technical skills.
- To independently manage a caseload of patients with complex needs within neurology using evidence based, client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in order to minimise disability and maximise independence for independent living.
- To provide leadership, supervision, and appraisal for junior and non-qualified staff and also students.
- To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of Occupational Therapy Services within the Neurology Team, holding responsibility for defined projects.

- Understand & apply the OT process in order to effectively self-manage a complex, multiple caseload within neuro rehabilitation, addressing occupational performance and skill deficits, enabling the patient in components of self-care, productivity and leisure
- Know the professional & personal scope of own practice and make referrals to other agencies
- Demonstrate specialist knowledge & understanding of the key concepts of biological, physical, social, psychological and clinical sciences in relation to occupational performance relevant to the neuro team
- Utilise and advise others on a range of OT and neurological assessments & techniques in areas of occupational performance and skill deficits
- Be responsible for the assessment, prescription & evaluation of specialist equipment & adaptations for patients with multiple and complex needs
- Demonstrate a detailed working knowledge of neuro conditions, rehabilitation and current OT approaches to treatment
- Apply a high level of knowledge of the effect of disability and provide training & advice on lifestyle changes & adaptations to the individuals social & physical environment
- Be able to use research, clinical reasoning & problem solving skills including activity analysis to identify the therapeutic benefit of interventions & make professional judgements with individuals with diverse or complex needs according to outcome, changes in patient needs and environmental influences
- Contribute to MDT assessment & offer specialist OT advice for self-care, productivity and leisure deficits.
- Be able to identify appropriate treatment objectives in partnership with clients their carers & other team members.
- Use specialist knowledge, training & experience to plan and implement client centred individual and/ or group treatment programmes for people with complex needs
- Be able to formulate specific & appropriate management plans including the setting of time scales such as discharge dates, to accurately prioritise needs with individuals & the multidisciplinary team, in relation to available resources, professional demands and level of dependency of clients.
- Lead & contribute to patient progress meetings which include the monitoring, analysing, evaluating & modifying OT treatment in order to measure progress & ensure the effectiveness of intervention & meet the agreed treatment objectives.
- Using highly specialised knowledge, carry out & supervise a variety of physical interventions that require a high level of physical & manual dexterity
- Apply a high level of knowledge of the effect of disability & provide training & advice on lifestyle changes and adaptation to the individuals social and physical environment
- Work in a variety of environments, which may include confined, unhygienic spaces that could present a risk to personal health and safety
