Collaboration with the Blood Bank Biomedical Scientist staff, facilitating a multidisciplinary approach to patient blood management.
Ability to influence Trust-wide policies and practices related to hemovigilance and transfusion safety, aligning with national health regulations and best practices.
The Lead Transfusion Specialist Nurse/ODP/BMS at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust will serve as a strategic and operational specialist, overseeing safe and appropriate transfusion practices across the Trust and community hospitals. This role includes assessing the training needs of around 2,500 staff members and developing educational programs aimed at nursing, medical, and multidisciplinary teams responsible for managing patients requiring blood transfusions.

Additionally, the post holder will manage clinical risks associated with transfusion protocols and provide technical support to the Blood Transfusion Department, collaborating closely with Biomedical Scientist staff. Key responsibilities also encompass ensuring compliance with Department of Health hemovigilance requirements, NICE recommendations, and other regulatory standards, helping the Trust maintain adherence to Clinical Governance and safety regulations related to blood transfusions.
