Previous experience working in an Emergency Department is Essential to the role
To act as a skilled practitioner within the Emergency Department, supporting team leaders to ensure that the highest quality of care is given to patients. Ensuring that all clinical practice is evidenced based, in accordance with local and national standards for good practice.
To support the Senior Sister or in the absence of take a lead role in Coordinating, planning and delivery of individualized care provided by the team in ED ensuring efficient management of the department.
Take a lead role in facilitating, education, supervising, supporting and developing qualified and unqualified staff.

To take responsibility for the assessment, planning and implementation and evaluation of nursing care without supervision
To liaise, involve and communicate with the patient and their family in the planning and delivery of patient care.
To participate in the development, agreement and monitoring of standards of care in compliance with clinical Governance agenda both locally and nationally
To ensure that own nursing practice is research based and that the knowledge base is regularly updated in support of professional practice.
To maximize opportunities for health promotion/education in the delivery of patient care.
To develop and expand clinical skills in a structured and coordinated way in line with NMC professional standards in order to improve patient care.
To act as a supervisor/mentor/preceptor as required within boundaries of competence and support junior staff nurses in their development
Undertake Clarity appraisal and Personal Development planning with designated team leader.
Ensure all clinical procedures are performed according to agreed protocols (inclusive of PGDs) standards and procedures as set by the department and the Trust.
Participate in the internal rotation and be flexible to the needs of the service.
To be innovative in the approach to care and proactively support the senior nurse/matron in the development of practice and team working.
To take managerial responsibility for the Emergency Department in the absence of the senior sister/charge nurse/ matron on a shift basis.
To participate in the delivery of care within agreed budgets developing an awareness of cost implications.
Demonstrate a personal commitment to attaining further management skills as identified at interview and PDP.
To be able to accept and implement change.
To ensure that all trust policies and procedures are implemented effectively.
The post holder is required to ensure that they comply with all applicable Health and Safety Legislation as required by the Trust.

Perform CLARITY appraisal and PDP planning, and developing others within the nursing team.
Assist the dedicated team leader in cascading of departmental/Trust information to team leaders.
