Colorectal Complex cancer Fellow (ST6+ level) with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London
We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team as the Colorectal complex cancer fellow. The ideal candidate will be a passionate and dedicated colorectal registrar with an interest in the treatment of advance colorectal cancer. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop skills in exentative and peritoneal disease cancer. Prior experience is not a pre-requisite, but it is encouraged. Working within one of the leading surgical departments in the country, the post-holder will work with senior consultant colleagues across colorectal surgery, gastroenterology, urology, plastics, orthopaedics, vascular and the oncology team as part of our world class MDT. You will be expected to contribute to the outpatient service. The successful candidate must be eligible for registration or hold full registration with the GMC and have registrar level experience in colorectal surgery. In addition to elective duties, they will participate in a 1:8 on-call registrar rota in general surgery. They must have the ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities, surgical waiting lists, operating lists and rotas as well as demonstrate strong communication and team working skills. The department has a growing quality improvement, research and audit unit and involvement in research is also actively encouraged. The post holder is intended to work at a Senior Registrar level, supporting and aiding the NPOP multidisciplinary team, clinical ward work, the Outpatient workload and Elective and Emergency operating of the Department. A pay banding supplement is payable for participation in the on-call rota at middle grade level. The successful candidate for the position of Colorectal Complex cancer Fellow and they will work at a senior registrar level, playing a pivotal role in providing expertise in the inpatient and outpatient management of patients. This dynamic role involves close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, fostering effective communication and synergy among various medical disciplines. Additionally, the candidate will be encouraged to develop proficiency laparoscopic and open colorectal surgery, and proctology.The successful candidate will contribute to the seamless integration of care, ensuring comprehensive and patient-centred approaches to treatment. 3. Key stakeholders The post holder will be required to develop key working relationships with the following roles within the service and the wider Trust. - Consultants, doctors in training, trust doctors and nursing staff particularly within the departments of colorectal surgery, gastroenterology, oncology, radiology, plastics, vascular, urology and orthopaedic team. - Allied health professionals particularly within the operating theatre, ERP and stoma nurses About us Inpatient patient care: Responsible for overseeing and co-ordinating the comprehensive inpatient care of patients with colorectal conditions, ensuring optimal medical management and patient outcomes. Organisation and support of the cancer MDT: Facilitate organisation, active participation, and effective communication in the Cancer and IBD multidisciplinary meetings. Participation and organisation of theatre sessions: Actively participate in and organise colorectal operating sessions ensuring efficient and coordinated delivery of surgical care and optimal patient outcomes. Specialist clinics: Participation in the multidisciplinary cancer, general and IBD colorectal clinics providing care for patients in the outpatient setting. Joint ward rounds: Collaborate with the cancer / IBD / nutrition team in conducting joint ward rounds for perioperative patients. Triaging of referrals: Ensuring patients referred to the service are triaged to the appropriate specialist in a timely and efficient manner to ensure best outcome. Assisting in the delivery of quality improvement, audit, research and teaching: Contributing to the ongoing initiatives, research endeavours and educational activities within and outside of the department.
