The role of Consultant Acute Medicine at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers an opportunity to join a dynamic Acute Medicine team within the Division of Integrated Medicine and Emergency Care. The position entails overseeing the daily medical reviews in a modern Same Day Emergency Care department and managing patient flow in a large Acute Medical Unit and Short Stay Unit. The consultant will provide clinical leadership, conduct daily ward rounds, facilitate rapid triage and assessments for ambulatory patients, and ensure safe patient discharges. Collaboration with a diverse team including registrars, junior doctors, and advanced clinical practitioners is essential, as is engagement in teaching, continuous learning, and adherence to Trust policies.

The consultant will also participate in clinical governance, audits, and quality assurance processes, while addressing service-related issues with clinicians and managers. Strong opportunities for leadership, research, and education exist within the Trust, as well as potential links to other specialties through flexible job plans. Candidates are encouraged to arrange informal visits to the department for a better understanding of the role and team dynamics.
