The role
Must be able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions when undertaking routine cleaning duties.
Work flexibly and prioritise tasks as required.
Able to contribute effectively as part of a team to support others in ensuring satisfactory completion of tasks.
The post holder will be required to have good keyboard skills. Excellent communication skills and telephone manner are also essential together with the ability to work as a team member coping within a busy environment and working to deadlines.
Training will be given in all aspects of the role and an ability to work autonomously once trained is essential.
To maintain standards of cleanliness and tidiness within the Pathology Directorate using appropriate materials and equipment.
To fulfil requests for forms and consumables from General Practices and other external users.
To fulfil requests for consumables from wards and departments with Warrington and Halton Hospitals
To respond to telephone and email enquiries from GPs and other external users in respect of consumables and/or laboratory forms.
To ensure all specimens (including referred specimens) are adequately documented.
To prepare referred samples for transportation to reference laboratories.

Principal Responsibilities
:
1. To receive, sort, identify, label and record receipt of specimens as per Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs). This may involve providing or receiving information from hospital staff or patients.
2. To identify to senior/qualified staff any specimens and/or requests, which may cause problems
(e.g. health & safety, inadequate identification and/or sample quality).
3. To ensure all specimens (including referred specimens) are adequately documented.
4. To prepare referred samples for transportation to reference laboratories.
5. To ensure all priority work is fast tracked to the appropriate department.
6. To monitor and maintain a safe working environment in accordance with Health and Safety requirements.
1. Operate the Pathology Computer System (MOLIS) and other Trust Computer Systems as appropriate (Sunquest ICE, Datix, Q-Pulse).
2. Access information by email, the WHH intranet and internet.
1. Ensure that the personal quality and accuracy of the work is maintained despite frequent interruptions.
