This is an exciting opportunity to join a well established therapy team, working with other OTs, physiotherapists, trusted assessors and rehab support workers, assessing and providing interventions to Newham residents in their own homes.
To provide a specialist client centered occupational therapy service to patients
To work as an autonomous practitioner in managing a defined caseload of complex cases independently, evidencing problem solving and clinical reasoning skills in line with evidence based/ client centred principles
To apply specialist occupational therapy knowledge and skills to the assessment of the needs of a given client group. From the assessment, to formulate a diagnosis and treatment plan designed to reduce the impact of disability and ill heath
To provide supervision, teaching and appraisal for junior occupational therapists, assistants, students and other members of the multidisciplinary team
To contribute to the planning, development and evaluation of the Occupational Therapy service
To be professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of own professional activities
To adhere to and apply the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct for Occupational Therapists (College of Occupational Therapists 2
To develop specialist skills in relation to specific client groups and then independently manage a caseload of complex cases providing a specialist occupational therapy service
To work closely with clients, their carers/families to encourage participation in the therapeutic process
To use clinical reasoning, critical thinking and reflection to monitor, evaluate and modify treatment, evaluate outcomes and thus ensure effectiveness of interventions
To assess the need for special equipment and adaptations in line with the eligibility criteria set out by the London Borough of Newham
To provide specialist advice on lifestyles, role, functional abilities, self care and the physical environment after taking account of the effects of the medical condition on the individual and his/her family/carers
To participate in client related meetings as required
To communicate effectively and work collaboratively with medical, nursing and therapy colleagues, as well as outside agencies, to ensure the delivery of a coordinated multidisciplinary service.
To provide verbal and written information to other multi disciplinary professionals regarding the occupational therapy assessment, management and treatment of the client
To identify and manage the potential difficulties and risks involved in working alone in a community setting
