Spectrum Community Health CIC is seeking qualified GPs to join their staff bank for the role of Bank GP at HMP Northumberland. The position involves collaborating with local GP colleagues and senior leaders to develop integrated primary healthcare models within the prison system. While prior experience in prison healthcare is preferred, it is not required as comprehensive induction and training will be provided. The successful candidates will demonstrate values such as compassion, empathy, and a commitment to high-quality care, and will receive support from a Regional Lead GP as well as opportunities for professional development, including leadership training.

In addition to general healthcare responsibilities, GPs with an interest in substance misuse will have the opportunity to gain expertise in this area, with investment in their development leading to national accreditation. This role emphasises a multidisciplinary approach to patient care within a correctional environment, requiring a strong commitment to innovative practices and effective collaboration.

Working with local GP colleagues, and senior GP Leaders within Spectrum, Head of Healthcare and other site stakeholders to work collaboratively to support the development and embedding of robust integrated primary care models of care delivery at site.

Prison healthcare

GPs play a crucial clinical leadership role in our prison primary healthcare teams. Previous experience of working in a jail, whilst desirable is not essential as full induction and training will be provided and there is round the clock access to experienced clinical supervision for new doctors who join our teams

Line managed and supported by a Regional Lead GP, you will have access to continuing professional development in support of appraisal and revalidation through our GP forum. As a senior leader you will have access to a full induction and a range of ongoing professional support, coaching and development opportunities including Spectrum's own ILM accredited leadership and management programme.

Substance Misuse

You may already have a special interest in substance misuse, if not we will invest in you to help you attain the expertise and confidence, backed up by national accreditation to deliver a substance misuse extended role
